Community Regulations

The Special Civil-Service Schemes in Spain have been included in the scope of application of European Union Regulations since 25-10-1998, in order to coordinate social security systems

Currently, Regulation 883/2004, on the coordination of social security systems, and Regulation 987/2009, on the procedure for implementing the Regulation on coordination are both in effect

With regard to bilateral conventions, only the current one with Japan has been approved

As regards public pensions, this inclusion allows for periods of contribution and analogous periods covered under the regulatory legislation of other Member States of the European Union, the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to take effect both for the recognition of the right and for the calculation of the pensions that may be payable under the State Civil Service Pension Scheme.

INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENTS ON SOCIAL SECURITY APPLICABLE TO PASSIVE CLASSES

In application of the bilateral social security agreements between Spain and Japan and between Spain and Senegal, insurance periods completed in accordance with the legislation of these countries will be taken into account to be applicable for the right and the determination of pensions under the Civil Service Pension Scheme included in their scope of application. For this purpose, the taking into account of such periods shall be expressly requested by submitting the relevant application.
