Passive Classes is the public pension system for those public officials included in its scope who entered the service before 1 January 2011 and for their relatives.This system guarantees social protection against the risks of old age, disability and death and survival, in accordance with Royal Legislative Decree No. 670/1987 of 30 April 1987, which approves the consolidated text of the State Passive Classes Act.
All newly recruited civil servants in the Civil Service as of 1 January 2011 no longer belong to Passive Classes, but are compulsorily covered by the General Social Security System.
